Assessing the Achievement Standards of the Mathematics curriculum just got a little bit easier.
Assessing the Mathematics Standards packs have been designed to explicitly link each content descriptor to the relevant part of the achievement standard. Each segment of the achievement standard has 2 pages of questions to assess student levels of understanding. The two pages are designed to be used as a pre-assessment and
post-assessment. Assessment A, is linked to the previous year level’s achievement standard (where applicable). Assessment B focuses on the current year level’s achievement standard with questions helping you to gauge if students are working below, at or above the standard.
A separate page in each set shows how the Content Descriptors and Achievement Standards relate to each other.
All answer pages are included. The answer pages are easy enough for students to mark from an convenient for teachers. Some simple checklists are also included to help track achievement levels across the assessments.
Currently there are packs available for year 3 to
5, covering the Number and Algebra Strand. The other year levels and strands will be added during the first half of 2015.
I have made these assessment packages to make life in the classroom a little bit easier. Each concept is covered with no more than 10 questions, so the marking load is reduced and you can get on with teaching. Also students are not overwhelmed with enormous tests at the end of each unit of work.
I am confident that together with classroom observations and formative assessment pieces, these packs will help you make good judgements about the level of achievement your students have reached with regard to the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
