Oz Curriculum HQ is a place to share resources, ideas, thoughts and products that help educators meet the classroom demands of the Australian Curriculum with a focus on Foundation to Year 6.
The main aims of Oz Curriculum HQ are;
- To provide a small Australian slice of cyber space that helps educators to find informative and inspiring resources to meet their education needs.
- To develop a place where educators come to share ideas with each other, building their expertise at using the Australian Curriculum.
- To help educators save time and energy by linking them with a rich source of information on the Australian Curriculum.
My name is Julie and I am the writer behind Oz Curriculum HQ. I began this site because I want to find out what others are doing with the Australian Curriculum. I also began it to bring together resources that are useful for implementing the Australian Curriculum. When I have been planning a new unit of study to teach in my classroom I scour the internet for resources to match the content of the curriculum. Often I find things that are great, but more often I find things that aren’t quite right for the Australian audience I am teaching. We all need good resources for the Australian topics and issues we teach. So, Oz Curriculum HQ is my attempt at saving educators time, by pointing them in the direction of the great resources I find, that fit with the demands of the Australian Curriculum.
I have three education loves- mathematics, children’s literature and history. I am also very interested in how adults learn and how school culture impacts on the learning of its students. Barrie Bennett is one of my education heroes; I love anything to do with cooperative learning and concept attainment.
I live in Western Australia and believe we need to be more active at promoting the things that make us, as Australian educators, unique. I love Bilbies for Easter and Santa on a surfboard for Christmas. I want to find and create products that match the world our students are learning within.
I have been a teacher since 2000. In this time I have taught all primary year levels, either as my own class or in my role as a Mathematics specialist teacher.
I have a Bachelor of Education Primary and a Master of Education (Professional Studies). I love learning about learning and read a lot of educational research literature. I work with pre-service teachers as an online tutor and find this keeps me finding new and fresh ideas.
Other than being an in-school educator, I am also an at-home educator! I have three young children who occupy a great deal of my time (mainly doing their washing!). It has been a blessing watching them grow and they have helped me discover that children are learning every waking minute of their day.
Please join me in the journey as I grow and develop Oz Curriculum HQ. Drop by as often as you can as I add posts each week. If you prefer me to let you know about the great ideas I come across sign up for the email newsletter.
